Frequently Asked Questions

How much is my timber worth?

Timber value is affected by a number of factors, including considerations such as:

  • Local market conditions. Timber growing near a number of mills might command a higher price than timber grown further away or close to only one or two mills.
  • Size, species, and quality of your trees.
  • How much timber you’re selling. A larger harvest will command a higher price if we can work more efficiently and reduce our cost per tree.
  • Conditions of the site. Anything that makes it harder to harvest and transport your timber will decrease the value. For example, soil wetness, distance from the nearest road, slope of the land, and distance from the stand to the nearest road.
  • Timber harvesting laws and regulations – both state and local.
